Within our sections we accept; poetry, short stories, reviews on books, plays, films and TV series, interviews, first-person pieces, experimental essays and think pieces. All poetry must be sent to our Poetry Editor. We do not accept children's fiction at this time. All submissions must be from Black creatives.
WHEN DO YOU OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS?
We usually open submissions for our annual printed edition in July for one month.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SUBMISSION AND A PITCH?
A pitch is a summary of an article idea that you want to write or have written. It functions as a 'movie trailer' that shows us what is interesting about your piece.
All articles, even if finished and written will need to be pitched to the editor you feel fits the themes of your article the best. Some more extensive tips on pitching can be found here.
A submission is usually a finished piece, and mostly refers to non-article pieces such as poetry, fiction, photography, etc. Unlike pitches, submissions are usually fully formed ideas, again submissions must be sent to the editor you feel your piece fits under the best.

We endeavor to reply to all pitches and submissions within 14 days of receipt. If this amount of time has passed please send a follow-up email.
