POETRY: UNTITLED LOVE POEM #1
you are everything the dawn draws near to make it through the night
and in your touch is a wonder i last found hiding amongst the stars.
the first, faintest rays of daybreak are enough to dim the afterglow
that leads me to your arms each night.
dreams do you an indignity, memories more so
but they’re all i’ve left to hold;
it’s in those gilded hallways that, lost, i know where to look for
the half-remembered shades of your face.
not a day goes by that i don’t think of the last time i dreamt with open eyes,
and woke to find not trifling vanities beside me, but you.
the contents of my heart petrified me.
(i know there should be some shame to admitting that:
believe me, my love—there is.)
like life everlasting, it seemed far too good to be true.
