Our ‘20-’21 Lifestyle and Culture Sub-editor Samantha Oguna is a 25-year-old Kenyan now based in Reading.


An avid fan of observing and documenting variations within culture, Samantha is a documentary addict and recipe collector. Her favourite recipe so far is Yassa Poulet, which originates from Senegal.

Working daily in health care, as well as volunteering as a refugee caseworker she is a fierce advocate for the harsh realities of inequality within the health system including the lack of viable mental health services and various socio-economic barriers Black people face. When not assisting Maryam with the range of submissions within her section for the magazine and blog, Samantha is likely to be found with her nose in a book or engaging in finding new statistics, conversations and documentaries on these topics that will help further both her education and advocacy of light them.
